Diana Morrison, Chair of the Savannah Area Chamber Board of Directors introduced to Savannah’s business community large and small, Economist Dean Robert Sumichrast. Dean Sumichrast spoke to over 500 attendees on the state of Georgia’s economy. Even though the news was not wonderful he stated that the first two quarters of 2009 will be the hardest but things will be looking up the last two quarters. His comments on the turn of the economic condition is strongly based on when the financial markets “thaw”. He gave much useful information on how in a down economy a smaller business can benefit from his larger competitor cutting his advertising budget as long as the small business jumps on the band wagon now and creates a culture among their clients to keep them loyal when times are better.He also said that hiding is not the smart thing to do. Be lean, be strong and think outside the norm for affordable ways to care for your clients and market your business to keep it top of mind with your clients.
